Nondestructive Testing Using mm-Wave Sparse Imaging Verified for Singly Curved Composite Panels

چکیده

Nondestructive testing (NDT) of composite materials is important in aerospace applications, and millimeter-wave (mm-wave) imaging has been increasingly used for this purpose. Imaging traditionally performed using Fourier methods, with inverse methods being an alternative. This communication presents mm-wave method approach intended NDT singly curved panels sparsely distributed flaws. It builds on previous work which was limited to planar panels. The move from increases the applicability applications. reference-free due a numerical source separation algorithm exploits sparsity reconstruction scatterers. demonstrated near-field measurements at 60 GHz industrially manufactured panel deliberate Compared more traditional method, our generates images higher resolution dynamic range. Flaw detection also easier as it less background clutter.

Infrared Thermal Wave Nondestructive Testing for Cf /SiC Ceramic Matrix Composite

In this paper the principle and experimental process of the infrared thermal wave nondestructive testing (NDT) on carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (Cf /SiC) ceramic matrix composite sample are demonstrated. The experiment results compared with X-ray testing results show that the infrared thermal wave NDT is an effective method for the Cf /SiC ceramic matrix composite, and it can be used ...

A Sparse Reconstruction Algorithm for Ultrasonic Images in Nondestructive Testing

Ultrasound imaging systems (UIS) are essential tools in nondestructive testing (NDT). In general, the quality of images depends on two factors: system hardware features and image reconstruction algorithms. This paper presents a new image reconstruction algorithm for ultrasonic NDT. The algorithm reconstructs images from A-scan signals acquired by an ultrasonic imaging system with a monostatic t...

Developing Raman Spectroscopy for the Nondestructive Testing of Composite Materials

The goal of this research is to examine the potential of Raman spectroscopy as a method of condition assessment for carbon fiber composite materials. Carbon fiber composites are used in high performance situations such as overwrapping of composite over-wrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) in aerospace applications and hydrogen and natural-gas transportation systems. The composites will play a large...

Full Field Nondestructive Techniques for Imaging Composite Fiber Volume Fraction

In a composite the matrix distributes the load onto and between the fibers. It is therefore important to know the volume fraction of fibers to ensure proper load distribution and predicted structural performance. The most common method of determining composite fiber volume fraction (FVF) involves removal of the matrix by burn off or acid digestion. While estimates of the fiber, matrix and void ...
